Street Dogs - Fading American dream
Boy, I was dying to hear this one! I never thought SD could top 'Savin' hill' but they managed to do the impossible with 'Back to the world'. What an awesome album that still is....lot's of singalongs, never easy and cheap, always classy.
'Fading American dream' is a mix of both albums and has a little something for everyone. Of course there's the usual Irish influences and the songs about the union, workers, etc... in 'there is power in union' (why does this make me think of Bruce Springsteen musically?)but hey, that's what Mike does and frankly I believe every word that comes outta the man's mouth.
Two songs immediately got my attention: 'Not without a purpose' and 'Sell your lies'. Yup, it's the faster songs without the Irish influences that got to me the most. Mike's got that typical voice (I've always picked him above Al Barr as my favo Dropkick's singer) and hits all the right spots, great singer! Just listen to 'Rights to your soul' (is that the Social Distortion influence you boys got going there?) and the emotional 'Final transmission' and you'll know what I mean.
There's the fun stuff in 'Tobbe's got a drinking problem', but the boys are discussing political affairs in 'Fading American dream' and 'Decency police' as well.
I don't think they'll ever top 'Back to the world' in my book, but 'Fading American dream' is another killer album that you should buy. A lil' something for everyone, just as I mentioned before.
Score: 84/100
