All odds against me was founded in the summer of ‘98. But back in those days we were called Retaliate. So actually Retaliate started in the summer of ‘98 by 5 guys from the local Harlinger scene. Michel, Gerard, Allert, Eric & WD came from already existing bands like United Orphan Goats, Broken Trust, CLS, Rent to Kill, 11-0-1. Because some of the bands quit playing, Retaliate was started. After a few months Gerard decided to leave. Peter from 11-0-1/Daybreak took his place. So now we have got the line-up as it is till today: Michel-guitar,
Eric-guitar, Peter-bass, Allert-drums and WD-vocals. A few months and some gigs later we put out a demo-tape. This 5 song demo was recorded in June ’99 on a4-track recorder in our practice place with help of Hendrik. It didn’t sound super but it was payable, only ƒ 3,00 (?1,40). About 200 copies were sold and everybody seemed to dig it. After few months 200 demo tapes and a couple of gigs the time was ready for our first CD. In April 2000 we went to Dé Studio in Asse (Belgium) to record a 6 song MCD. We could not find a label to bring it out.
So with help from some friends we did it by our own. Because we kept the price low (ƒ10 ~ ?4.45) we were able to sell about 400 copies. Due to this fact we could play regularly in 2000 and 2001. But in 2002 we had a little relapse. Our drummer went to Spain for 2 months, while other members had to move and some were busy with work. So inspiration dropped a little and so did the motivation. We didn’t have many gigs. The plans for a new CD were vague. At the beginning of 2003 we stuck our heads together and decided to make a restart.
First we changed our name because there were more bands called Retaliate. We came up with All Odds Against Me, so that’s what are called nowadays. Secondly we booked Dé Studio again (in march 2003) to record our second CD. Thirdly we saw we had to do more promotion (webpage) and find as many gigs we can. So now we’re back with a new album and a new attitude. That’s our story so far. See you around in future. |
